Yao Zhou, 周尧, is postdoctoral research associate in the theory department.
He works with Dr. Ilya Dodin on using the phase space (Wigner-Moyal) formulation of quantum mechanics to study inhomogeneous wave turbulence in plasmas.
He received his PhD in plasma physics from Princeton University in 2017, and B.S. in mathematics and physics from Tsinghua University in 2011.
For his PhD thesis, Yao developed variational integrators for ideal MHD and applied them to studying current singularity formation. His advisors were Hong Qin and Amitava Bhattacharjee.
Yao is interested in a variety of topics in theoretical and computational plasma physics.
