Dr Kim, 김은화, is currently an Associate Research Physicist at Princeton Plasma Physics Laboratory. She received her PhD from Kyung Hee University (Korea) in 2005. Since then, she has held research positions at Kyung Hee University (Korea), University of Sydney (Australia), and Princeton University. Dr. Kim has been modeling the cold plasma wave equations in the time domain in order to study problems of wave propagation in inhomogeneous space plasmas including multiple ion species. She has applied this model to many important problems in magnetospheric physics. Her initial work focused on resonant absorption. She has also worked on high frequency waves, in the upper hybrid resonance band, as well as on lower frequency waves such as whistlers. She also branched off into studies of Mercury's magnetosphere which is distinguished by the fact that the ion cyclotron effects are important particularly because of the presence of significant populations of heavy ion species. She has also examined the linear mode conversion of extraordinary mode 'radio' waves at density gradients using her fluid code including electron pressure.
