Quizzes

The following quizzes are designed to test your knowledge; and to explain the physics of plasmas, nuclear fusion, and so forth. (This page is under construction; please accept my sincerest apologies for any imperfections.)

INSTRUCTIONS FOR SUBMITTING QUESTIONS : Anyone and everyone is welcome, and indeed encouraged, to contribute. Please send to “The Quiz Master”, shudson@pppl.gov, subject=quiz, the following:
1) a question;
2) the correct answer;
3) (optional) several amusing or confusing, brief, alternative “answers”;
4) a detailed explanation, including references to additional information as appropriate;
5) indicate which quiz the question should be posted to;
6) (optional) your name and institution, so that proper credit can be given.

  • INTRODUCTION TO PLASMA PHYSICS
    •  The basic properties of plasmas, the “fourth state of matter”, will be reviewed. This is introductory, elementary text-book material.
  • ADVANCED TOPICS
    •  Challenging theoretical and mathematical aspects of plasma physics are reviewed. This is graduate level material, and a background in physics and mathematics is required.
  • EXPERT LEVEL
    •  Good Luck! Some of these questions may not have answers, and some questions/answers may be controversial! If anything is imprecise or incorrect, of if you wish to explain something in more detail, please contribute.
