Daren Stotler is a Principal Research Physicist in the Princeton Plasma Physics Laboratory Theory Department. He received a B.A. summa cum laude from Rice University in 1981 with a double major in physics and materials science. His Ph. D. in Applied Physics from the University of Texas at Austin was awarded in 1986. Dr. Stotler joined PPPL immediately thereafter.
His primary research interest is the study of the interactions of neutral atoms and molecules with a confined plasma. Dr. Stotler worked with Dr. Charles Karney to develop the DEGAS 2 neutral gas code to simulate these interactions in current experiments and to predict their impact on future devices. Principal applications of DEGAS 2 include support of diagnostics involving neutral particles and coupling to plasma transport codes to provide self-consistent plasma-neutral solutions. DEGAS 2 is also being used around the world by multiple researchers. Dr. Stotler's publication record contains more than 130 papers in refereed journals or conference proceedings.
